Clayton Smith

Clayton Smith is a human factors consultant specializing in medical device and combination product development, bringing more than a decade of experience across product development, manufacturing, and human factors research in both industry and consulting roles. He has conducted hundreds of human factors study sessions throughout his career, supporting a diverse range of technologies including drug delivery systems (injection devices, nasal sprays, infusion systems), surgical devices and systems, diagnostic tools, clinical software, blood collection devices, and wearable technologies.
Clayton regularly leads critical elements of the human factors engineering process, including HFE/UE plans, task analysis, use-related risk analysis, heuristic evaluations, and the design, execution, and reporting of formative and summative usability studies. His work helps ensure safe, intuitive user experiences and supports regulatory expectations for medical device and combination product usability.
He holds a B.S. and M.Eng. in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University.
